I want to express my thanks for all the support my fellow hams gave me and Jean during my terms as your Section Manager. I am sure you will do the same for Keith Miller your incoming SM. I look forward to working in your behalf in my new Vice Director position.

TN Section Manager Elected

In Tennessee, current Section Manager Glen Clayton, W4BDB, was declared elected as the Vice Director of the ARRL’s Delta Division; his term begins at noon on January 1, 2012. Clayton’s ascendency to the Vice Director position created a vacancy for Section Manager in the Tennessee Section.

There were three candidates for the Section’s top slot: Keith Miller, N9DGK, of Rockvale; R. Lowell Bennington, WD4DJW, of Harrison, and Jack R. Green, AD4LP, of Sale Creek. Miller won the election with 417 votes. Bennington came in second with 341 votes, and Green received 196 votes. Miller has been active as an officer of the Stones River Amateur Radio Club for several years and has served as an Emergency Coordinator, District Emergency Coordinator and Assistant Section Emergency Coordinator in the Tennessee Section.

It is my privilege to announce the appointment of Mark McDougal, K4YN as the District 10 Emergency Coordinator. Mark has made significant contributions to Ham Radio in the area of Repeaters and Repeater Networking and he will be a great asset to our team.

In addition it is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Shirley Brown, K4RNX as the assistant Emergency Coordinator for District 10. Shirley will be Mark’s assistant and she will assist Mark in supporting the County Emergency Coordinators in District 10.

I look forward to working with both Mark and Shirley and help them build District 10 and develop a group of professional Emergency Communicators.

Directions are:
Take I-81 south or north to Exit 8 upon to Hwy 25E turn left (south) toward White Pine go less then one half (1/2) mile and turn right and WSCC Expo Center will be on left in less then one half (1/2) mile.

Info about WSCC Expo Center can be found at: http://www.ws.edu/expo The Expo Center does have overnight RV parking and hook up.

K4NSO – William Monroe “Bill” Stem -SK

K4NSO – William Monroe “Bill” Stem (21 April 1929 – 4 November 2010) – Mr. William Monroe Stem, age 81, of Fayetteville passed away Thursday night in Huntsville Hospital.

He was a native of Rover, TN, a draftsman with NASA and a member of the Wally Byam Caravan Club International.

Survivors include his wife Juanita Hall Stem of Fayetteville, son William Monroe Stem, Jr., and wife Kathryn, of Madison, AL, daughter Susan Stem Tucker and husband Ronald Lee Tucker of Collierville, TN, and four grandchildren Whitney Ramelle Stem of Memphis, William Tyler Stem of Madison, AL, William Joseph Tucker of Fayetteville and Nicole Lee Tucker of Cordova, TN.

There are no services planned for Mr. Stem at this time. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to the American Cancer Society.

Dave WV6JPL and Pete KT4BW, both of Crossville, TN, have won the Cover Plaque Award for their article “A Solar Powered Repeater for EmComm” in the September 2010 issue of QST. Congratulations, Dave and Pete!

Please consider nominating a deserving ham for the George Hart Distinguished Service Award or the Delta Division Distinguished Service Award (DDDSA). Nominations for the Hart award are due at ARRL Headquarter by November 1. Details for this award can be found by typing the words “Hart Award” in the website search box in the upper right corner at http://www.arrl.org/ Nominations for the DDDSA, which are also due by November 1, should be submitted directly to your Section Manager as described in the DDDSA rules process at http://arrldelta.org/awards.htm on the Delta Division website.

New tnarrl.org format

QST QST QST Tennessee Hams

Greetings fellow Tennessee Amateur Radio Operators (and others). In the next few weeks you will notice a new look for the tnarrl.org website. This change should make finding information on the site easier and will certainly make updating and maintaining the site easier. This new format will also allow others to contribute content to tnarrl.org.

Although you might notice some pages missing as the change is made, eventually everything from the old site will appear here. Thanks for your patience while make this transition.

Well we had another great hamfest in Huntsville Ala. Got to see several friends and meet many more. We got to see a special friend Larry Marshall WB4NCW, our former Section Manager for Tennessee. Larry was looking good and had that great smile having his grand son chauffeur him around. I hope you got to see Larry and say hello. Larry has done a great job as NCS of the TN SSB nets. I want to take this time to say a special thanks for all his work.

Next month Sept 24-25 is the Ten Tec in Sevierville Tn. Its going to be another good one hope to see you there. The Gladesville Hamfest has been changed to NOV 20 and plans are still being upgraded , so keep your eyes open for possible new information.

GRAY hamfest is Oct 16 put this one on your calender.

Oak Ridge is Oct 9.

Chattanooga Oct 23.

Please keep these in mind, make your plans to attend, we are looking forward to seeing every one and having a great hamfest.

Remember to support your local Hamfest, it takes a lot of time and work for the clubs to put them on and its for your enjoyment, so get out and see your fellow hams and pick up some great bargains.

Were back home fighting the heat. Jean and I had a great time at McMinn County Hamfest. It grows more and more each year, the threat of rain kept some away but those that came out enjoyed a beautiful day and lots of begins. Keep up the good work guys and we will see you next year. Next month is the Huntsville Ala Hamfest Aug 21-22, we are looking forward to seeing every one there.

The Gladeville Hamfest was postponed until 20 November 2010. Please make your plans to attend, we are looking forward to seeing every one and having a great hamfest.
