Section Youth Coordinator (SYC) - Position Description
Requirements:
- Recommendation from the ARRL Section Manager.
- Full ARRL membership in good standing.
- Licensed amateur radio operator for at least two years, holding a General class license or higher.
- The appointee should be:
- A youth amateur operator, or
- An adult who actively works with youth on a regular basis.
Responsibilities
- Maintain an updated assessment of active youth amateur radio operators in the section, including:
- Youth involved in clubs.
- Scouting programs (e.g., Jamboree on the Air - JOTA).
- Youth organizations and schools.
- Promote youth-focused on-air activities, such as:
- ARRL Kid's Day.
- Jamboree on the Air (JOTA).
- Field Day.
- School Club Roundup.
- Collaborate with the Affiliated Club Coordinator (ACC) to:
- Assess youth activity within ARRL clubs.
- Provide resources and ideas for youth engagement.
- Encourage clubs to host youth-oriented programs and activities.
- Exchange ideas with other Section Youth Coordinators (SYCs) in different ARRL sections to develop and implement new youth engagement initiatives.
Recruitment & Membership Growth
- Recruiting new hams and ARRL members is a core responsibility of every SYC.
- The SYC should actively encourage youth participation in amateur radio and expand ARRL membership.
- Strengthening youth engagement supports the future of amateur radio and public service initiatives.
