Technical Coordinator (TC) - Position Description

The ARRL Technical Coordinator (TC) is a section-level official appointed by the Section Manager (SM) to oversee all technical activities within the section.

  • The TC reports directly to the SM.
  • Expected to maintain regular contact with other section-level appointees to ensure a unified ARRL Field Organization.

Requirements:

  • Novice class license or higher.
  • Full ARRL membership.

Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Coordination

  • Supervise and coordinate the work of the section’s Technical Specialists (TS).
  • Encourage technical knowledge sharing by:
    • Promoting articles in QST.
    • Supporting presentations at club meetings, hamfests, and conventions.
  • Promote experimentation in:
    • VHF/UHF technologies.
    • Specialized modes.
    • Other technical advancements within the section.
  • Serve as an advisor to radio clubs that sponsor:
    • Training programs for amateur license classes.
    • License upgrade programs, in coordination with the ARRL Affiliated Club Coordinator.

Emergency & Public Service Support

  • Function as the technical coordinator during emergencies or disasters.
  • Assist government and relief agencies in setting up emergency communication networks, working with the ARRL Section Emergency Coordinator (SEC).

Technical Assistance & Advocacy

  • Refer amateurs in need of technical guidance to local Technical Specialists (TS).
  • Encourage clubs to form RFI/TVI (Radio Frequency Interference/Television Interference) committees with TS involvement to provide technical assistance.
  • Assist local technical program committees in arranging suitable presentations for ARRL hamfests and conventions.
  • Convey feedback from section amateurs and TSs regarding the technical content of:
    • QST magazine.
    • ARRL publications.
    • Suggestions for improvements should be communicated to ARRL Headquarters (HQ) technical staff.
  • Collaborate with ARRL Technical Advisors (TAs) when needed.

Community Engagement & Education

  • Deliver technical presentations at:
    • Club meetings.
    • Hamfests.
    • Conventions.

Recruitment & Membership Growth

  • Recruiting new hams and ARRL members is a core responsibility of the TC.
  • Actively promote amateur radio participation and expand ARRL membership.
  • Strengthening Field Organization programs enhances public service capabilities.
